Recently, the Shaanxi Government announced the Decision on the 2024 Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Awards. Dr. Liu Yi’s team from the School of Medicine at Xi’an Peihua University was awarded the Third Prize of the 2024 Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award for their project titled Key Technology Development and Industrialization of Biosafety Defense Equipment. This achievement marks a significant breakthrough for the university in receiving government-level awards in the natural sciences category.
The project addresses the technological bottlenecks and market gaps in biosafety defense in the post-Covid19 era, establishing a seamless industry-academia-research-application chain that spans from fundamental technology research to collaborative development with enterprises and ultimately achieves industrial-scale implementation. This achievement focuses on biosafety defense equipment and represents a major breakthrough in key technology development. Through years of dedicated research targeting critical challenges and difficulties in the field of biosafety, the team successfully resolved multiple technical obstacles and developed a series of advanced biosafety defense equipment. The outcomes not only demonstrate leading-edge technological performance but have also been translated into industrial applications, effectively driving progress in related sectors and contributing significantly to the safeguarding of public health security.
Dr. Liu Yi has long been dedicated to the field of pharmaceutical engineering, anchoring his work in teaching while deepening scientific research. He drives industrial advancement through invention transformation, establishes standards through authoritative textbooks, and transforms patents and research papers into advanced equipment shared by over 500 universities and research institutions, generating significant economic and social benefits. Relying on the Shaanxi Provincial University Engineering Research Center for Biosafety Defense Equipment, he has formed a “scientist + engineer” R&D team composed of both academic and industrial professionals. The team specializes in biosafety defense equipment technology and brings together expertise in medicine, biology, electronic engineering, and mechanical engineering. Members include Prof. Yue Huijuan, Prof. Meng Tingting, Prof. Shi Min, and Prof. Wang Juning—all professors and experts in medicine and biology from Xi’an Peihua University. The team also incorporates senior engineers from industry: Chen Hao, Technical Director of Xi’an Taiwei Biotechnology Equipment Co., Ltd., and Zhou Yan, Technical Director of Xi’an Fukang Air Purification Equipment Engineering Co., Ltd.
The successful application of this project owes much to the university’s continuous increase in scientific research funding, active improvement of research infrastructure, and deliberate establishment of diverse research platforms—all of which have created a rich and high-quality research environment for its scholars. At the same time, the implementation of the project has bridged the industry-academia-research-application pipeline, systematized exemplary cases of university-enterprise collaboration, and reinforced the university’s applied and practice-oriented educational positioning.
Being awarded the 2024 Provincial Science and Technology Award is not only an honor for Xi’an Peihua University, but also a responsibility.
