Xi’an Peihua University is a full-time regular institution of higher education, officially approved by the Ministry of Education of China. It primarily focuses on undergraduate education and is dedicated to cultivating high-quality applied talents.

The university boasts a long history and profound cultural heritage. Its origins can be traced back to 1928, when it was first established as the Xi’an First Women’s Civilian Vocational School by the Shaanxi Women’s Vocational Education Promotion Association—the first school in Xi’an founded by a social organization. In 1935, with the approval of the national Ministry of Education, it was renamed Shaanxi Private Peihua Women’s Junior Dyeing and Weaving Vocational School. In 1952, it became a public institution and was renamed Xi’an First School of Finance and Economics. In 1953, it was renamed Xi’an School of Finance and Economics, and in 1956, it was relocated to Changchun to establish the Changchun Statistics School of the National Bureau of Statistics (one of the five schools directly under the National Bureau of Statistics at the time). In 1984, with the approval of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government and the endorsement of the former State Education Commission, renowned educator Mr. Jiang Weizhi restored the original Peihua Women’s Vocational School and founded Xi’an Peihua Women’s University—the first regular higher education institution in New China dedicated specifically to enrolling female students and promoting women’s education. In 2003, it was upgraded to a full-time undergraduate institution with the approval of the Ministry of Education and renamed Xi’an Peihua University (admitting both male and female students). In 2007, it became the first private university in Western China to grant bachelor’s degrees. In 2013, it successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation. In 2014, it was approved as one of the first pilot institutions for application-oriented undergraduate education in Shaanxi Province. In 2017, it was included in Shaanxi Province’s plan for the establishment of newly authorized master’s degree-granting institutions. In 2018, it was approved as a “First-Class College” construction institution in Shaanxi. In 2023, it successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s Undergraduate Education Teaching Audit Assessment. In 2024, it held a symposium commemorating the care and support of senior Party and state leaders for Peihua, as well as celebrating the 40th anniversary of private higher education in Shaanxi.

The university has successively received a number of honors and awards, including Ministry of Education’s Top 50 Universities in China for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, China’s Most Socially Responsible Institution, Top 10 Private Universities in China, National Advanced Social Organization, National Outstanding Organization for Summer Social Practice, Shaanxi Province Advanced Collective for Graduate Employment, Shaanxi Province Pilot Institution for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform, Shaanxi Province Advanced Collective, Shaanxi Province Party Building Model University, Shaanxi Province Safe Campus, Shaanxi Province Civilized Campus.

The university comprises multiple campuses, including Chang’an, Gaoxin, and Zhongnan, along with the Guodu Teaching Base, covering a total area of 1.529 million square meters. The campus construction is grand in scale and meticulously designed, with well-equipped facilities such as administration buildings, teaching buildings, experimental centers, student dormitories, gymnasiums, libraries, swimming pools, university hospitals, and academic exchange centers. The library houses a collection of 2.7848 million printed books, 1.968 million e-books, 23,000 electronic journals, and a total of 176 terabytes of digital literature resources, fully supporting 24-hour electronic borrowing and reading services. The campus is also equipped with a standard stadium with a rubberized sports track, illuminated basketball courts, badminton courts, and tennis courts and other sports venues. The university owns four directly affiliated hospitals—Xi’an Peihua University First Affiliated Hospital, Panaxia International Hospital, Tangcheng Hospital, and Xi’an Peihua University Hospital—as well as several non-directly affiliated hospitals, including Shaanxi Provincial Fifth People’s Hospital, Xi’an Fifth People’s Hospital, and Haixiang Eye Hospital, along with teaching hospitals such as Xi’an Central Hospital and Chang’an District Hospital.

The university has achieved remarkable results in the development of disciplines and academic programs. The university is among the first pilot institutions for transformation and development in Shaanxi Province, and a founding member of the National Alliance of Private University Sports, the Future University Alliance, and the Applied Curriculum Development Alliance. It has established 10 secondary schools: the School of Humanities and International Education, the School of Intelligent Science and Engineering, the School of Law, the School of Medicine, the School of Accounting and Finance, the School of Media and Design, the School of Physical Education and Sports, the School of Marxism, the School of Open Education, and the Women School. The university offers 38 undergraduate programs and 13 junior college programs, covering eight major disciplines—engineering, medicine, management, economics, law, education, literature, and arts—with more than 23,000 full-time undergraduate and junior college students enrolled. The university has obtained a number of key teaching and research platforms, including national first-class undergraduate program sites, provincial first-class undergraduate program sites, provincial first-class undergraduate courses, provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers.

The university boasts a strong and high-quality faculty team. It has a faculty characterized by noble professional ethics, excellent expertise, and a well-balanced structure. There are over 1,300 full-time and part-time teachers, of whom 33% hold senior professional titles, and 88.73% hold master’s or doctoral degrees. In recent years, faculty members have been honored with numerous awards, In recent years, faculty members have received numerous honors, including the National Huang Yanpei Outstanding Teacher Award, recognition as Key Teachers of Ideological and Political Courses in Chinese Universities, the National Counselor of the Year Nominee Award, the title of Model Teacher in Professional Ethics of Shaanxi Province (Advanced Individual in Teacher Ethics), the Teaching Expert (Teaching Model) Award in the Shaanxi Province Ideological and Political Course Teaching Competition, and the honor of Advanced Individual in Professional Ethics of Shaanxi Province. A number of distinguished teachers and educators have also emerged, including recipients of the National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation grants, Teaching Masters of Shaanxi Province, Technical Experts of Shaanxi Province, and Advanced Individuals in Employment and Entrepreneurship Work of Shaanxi Province.

The quality of talent cultivation has been widely recognized. The university places great emphasis on the integration of industry and education, university-enterprise cooperation, and collaborative talent cultivation. It has established long-term and stable partnerships with numerous leading enterprises, achieving seamless connectivity between the educational chain, talent chain, industrial chain, and innovation chain. The university vigorously promotes applied curriculum reform, actively advancing the development of industry-university cooperative courses in accordance with the requirements of “transforming work tasks into curricula, turning teaching tasks into practical work, systematizing the teaching process, and engaging in authentic projects with real learning and practice to master genuine skills.” It has established 263 on-campus experimental sites and 208 off-campus internship and practice bases, enabling students to learn and practice through real projects and acquire true capabilities. To date, the university has supplied society with over 100,000 graduates, nurturing a large number of outstanding professionals. According to third-party survey feedback, both employer satisfaction and graduate satisfaction exceed 97%, while the employment rate of graduates and employer satisfaction rate remain among the highest in comparable institutions.

The university offers a vibrant array of cultural and sports activities. The university consistently hosts theme activities under the framework of “Three Festivals” (Spring Campus Art and Culture Festival, University Student Volunteer Service Culture Festival, University Student Science and Technology Festival), “Two Months” (Student Club Culture Month, Month of Learning from Lei Feng), and “Two Platforms” (Summer Social Practice Platform, Young Cloud Ladder School for Student Cadre Training). It focuses on building campus cultural platforms such as the University Student Art Festival, Science and Technology Culture Festival, Club Culture Festival, Mental Health Festival, and Sports Culture Festival, as well as building the “One College, One Brand” characteristic cultural activity series. The university vigorously promotes a “club-based” reform in physical education teaching and has set 15 world records for ultra-long-distance shooting, three of which broke Guinness World Records. The pass rate for the physical fitness tests of students has remained above 90%, with the rate of good and excellent results increasing year by year.

The university has carried out extensive cooperation and exchanges with the outside world. By adopting various forms such as Sino-foreign cooperative education, inter-university joint training, and exchange programs, it has established in-depth partnerships with universities and research institutions in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and many other countries and regions.
